Hue And Cry Album Studio Blog 2010

Hi folks

Greg here! This is the Hue And Cry Album Studio Blog 2010 - I'm doing a rough'n'ready weekly diary below, in the comments space. The most recent ones are at the top - read down for the history so far! [And Pat might be inserting the occasional comment or video too!]

It's getting funky in here...

best, greg x

Greg - Are you planning to play any of your new songs @ Kilmarnock?

That's a good point Phil. I'm sure there will be "extras" on the new record.

Sounds good. Can't wait to hear these new songs. I think all bands should do a blog like this because usually with most releases you get hardly any info but this increases the excitement levels.

Day 31 of "Hot Wire" Album (05/05/10) - Sorry it's been over two weeks since the last Album Studio Blog entry but I've spent the time going thru over 16hrs of the rehearsal recordings, picking the best bits, making decisions on what is to stay and what's not ... This is the tough bit! ... I send mp3s of my progress to Pat and he helps steer me thru this decision making process. Here's some of the mails that have been flying back and forth ....

... Now I have to prepare each song for overdubs ... another lengthy process ... no rest , as they say :)

Day 30 of "Hot Wire" Album (20/04/10) - Last day of rehearsals today. It went well. We did "Carlos Takes The Fall", "I Can Have It All", "Darkness Falls". That's us got 12 songs up and running now. See below ...

... Nice spelling of irreversible Greg ... ah well, its there now ... John Paul, Alan and Paul did gr8 in these rehearsals ... I'm so proud of them. Now I have to go thru all the recordings and pick the best takes to use as foundations for the album ... once I've done that, I'm gonna invite Pat and the guys round to my house to listen to everything so we can decide on arrangements and tempos before I progress any further ... Here's a wee video I shot today, on our last day of rehearsals ... I think the guys were just letting their hair down a bit playing "Living For The City" ... I worked them hard over the four days ... its good. Have a look.
Till next time ...

Sounding great guys - you just don't realise what goes into the production of a song. One of the things that always amazes me about Sinatra and people like that was the orchestration and production of some of the bigger swing numbers. I'm learning more and more about music from this blog. Thanks!

I love the sound of that little snippet. Jumping the gun a bit I can imagine the horn section. Sounds like classic Hue Cry

I am looking forward to hearing the full version of this song - the drumming (on the track) sounds like a perverse funky drummer break
